New Zealand Organic Dairy

It starts with this place, because New Zealand is a great place to produce organic dairy. We’ve got the perfect climate, location, and environment for pasture-based organic farming. And we’ve got some of the very best organic farmers too. We farm without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, GMOs and antibiotics. Striving to protect and enhance our natural environment, biodiversity and soil health.

Fonterra Organic 365 days grass-fed

365 Days Grass-fed & Pasture-raised

Our temperate climate means our organic cows are outdoors in the fresh air and sunlight, grazing on pasture.  And it’s not just any grass, we believe a diverse range of pasture species including grasses, legumes and herbs helps to support not only the variety and nutritional profile of our cows diet but also the soil health and biodiversity of our farms.

Fonterra Organic carbon footprint

Organic Certified

We’ve combined the benefits of New Zealand pasture-based dairy farming with all the core principles of organic farming. Which means our farmers support our natural resources, biodiversity, soil health and animal wellbeing. To meet the requirements of our organic certifications our farmers use natural solutions instead of antibiotics, synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, and are non-GMO.

Fonterra Organic cared for cows

Prioritising Animal Wellbeing

Cows are at the heart of every dairy farm and their wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. Fonterra’s independently certified Cared for Cows Standard represents our approach to animal wellbeing. It helps to ensure our cows are valued and treated with respect throughout their lives, and that they are healthy, productive, and well cared for.

Breast is Best

We recognise that Breast milk is the best nutrition for a baby. It's full of everything a baby needs to grow and develop in a healthy way, and gives children the very best start in life.

Before using infant formula instead of breast milk, consumers should first speak to a health care professional.

A decision not to breastfeed, or to introduce partial bottle feeding, could reduce supply of breast milk and be a difficult decision to reverse.
