Q&A with Linda Mulvihill, General Manager Energy & Climate, Fonterra
My name is Linda, and I lead the Energy & Climate team here at Fonterra. I’ve been in this role for over 13 years now. I’m responsible for our strategy to improve energy efficiency and decarbonise across our manufacturing operations, while making sure we have continued access to reliable, cost-effective energy.
How does your role support Fonterra’s climate targets?
My role supports Fonterra's Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of a 50% absolute reduction by 20301.
Why is addressing climate change important to Fonterra?
Tackling climate change matters – not just to Fonterra, but to New Zealand as a whole. As one of the country’s largest energy users, our actions help shape energy supply chains and make it easier for others to transition, too.
Why is sustainability important to you?
I often think about the world I want my kids to grow up in. I try to make choices aligned with the future I want, such as restoring hillsides on my own farm, living off-grid, and growing food in a big orchard and veggie garden. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of something bigger at Fonterra – helping lead a once-in-a-generation shift in how we use energy. It’s challenging, exciting, and meaningful work, and I’m proud of the legacy we’re building for New Zealand.
